She’d never created files for her papers. Yesterday I was helping a home owner clear her new home for furniture delivery later this week. After clearing out excess moving boxes and donation items, I noticed the rest of the clutter was bags and boxes of papers. To say she was overwhelmed was an understatement. We sat down and started sorting. I grabbed my file folders from my work bag and began making file categories. Car/Medicare/Mom/Homeowner Insurance etc. Concerned that I was duplicating a system already in place, I asked if she had files somewhere else. Nope. This was her first filing experience. In a little over an hour, we had more than half of the papers filed, trashed, or set aside for shredding. Our time was coming to a close, but she was so excited to keep going on her own. “See? I’m getting it! I can do this!” Gosh, I love my job. But as I told her, it’s my goal to teach these skills and work myself out of a job. Unemployment, here I come! #paper #files #Unemploymentbenefits
